• Couple forced out of home after east Charlotte fire

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - An east Charlotte couple has to stay somewhere else after their home caught fire overnight.

The fire started around 1 a.m. on Eastwycke Place Drive, near Hickory Grove and Sharon Amity Roads.

A neighbor told Channel 9 the couple came to his door and told him to call 911.

Investigators think the fire started in the garage and they were able to put it out before it spread to the main part of the house.

The couple went to the hospital for observation, but they're not seriously hurt.

Fire investigators have not yet determined a cause.
