CHARLESTON, S.C. — South Carolina had the third worst surge in COVID-19 cases of any state in the U.S. Since then, it's leveled and improved.

“It’s taken a lot of pressure off the medical system,” said Dr. Valerie Scott, who works at Roper St. Francis Hospital in Charleston.
