Crews close Charlotte road until summer for bridge replacement

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A west Charlotte road will be closed until the summer for bridge replacement.

Crews on Tuesday closed off Barringer Drive between Beach Nut Road and Manchester Drive until July 31.

Charlotte Department of Transportation officials said the closure is necessary for replacing the bridge over Irwin Creek. The project includes new storm drainage, water lines and sidewalks on both sides.

The road will be closed to all through traffic, and Charlotte Area Transit System buses will be affected.

Drivers can use Remount Road, West Boulevard and Clanton Road as a detour.
