50-acre forest fire in Caldwell County contained

CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. — A 50-acre forest fire in Caldwell County is contained.

Local firefighters and U.S. Forest Service and N.C. Forest Service crews were fighting a 50-acre fire in Caldwell County on Saturday night, according to officials with the N.C. Forest Service.

The fire started around 7:55 p.m. Friday and was about 45 acres at the time. The fire was off Globe Mountain Road.

Officials said they were making progress towards containing the fire. There were homes within a quarter mile of the fire, but officials said the homes were not in imminent danger and people had not been evacuated.

Officials said they expect crews to still be on the scene Monday.
