After snowfall, crews treat roads to help keep drivers safe

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Snow and rain will move out of the area Thursday, but black ice could threaten drivers overnight and into the early Friday morning commute.

Charlotte Department of Transportation trucks treated roads overnight Thursday.

DOT will have 79 trucks treating roads overnight Thursday in Mecklenburg, Cabarrus and Union counties.

Officials said 20 of those trucks will be on interstates.

Commuters are advised to stick with driving on primary roads.

“It’s a little slushy, not real slushy,” resident Norma Gardner said. “It’s just wet, but it’s probably going to be black ice in the morning.”

Mecklenburg EMS personnel responded to 52 wrecks between midnight and 8 p.m. Thursday. It is unclear how many of those were weather-related.
