Crews searching for missing swimmer last seen jumping off boat in Lake Norman

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — North Carolina Wildlife crews are searching for a missing swimmer in Catawba County after he jumped off a boat and never resurfaced.

Around 10:30 a.m. Sunday, a group of 10 people were on board a pontoon boat in the Beaver Dam Creek area of Lake Norman.

The boat’s driver, a 27-year-old man from Burlington, stopped the boat and jumped into the water to swim. Officials said he then started having trouble swimming, went under and never came back up.

Authorities said the man was not wearing a lifejacket.
