Criminal investigation underway involving suspended PR director

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — Channel 9 has uncovered a criminal investigation is underway involving Iredell-Statesville School's suspended public information officer.

No one was said why former Public Relations Director Dawn Creason was suspended last week but Channel 9 knows there are two investigations going on -- one by officers at the Statesville Police Department and another by Iredell-Statesville Schools.

Superintendent Brady Johnson confirmed the district is doing an internal investigation into Creason's actions while working for the school district.

Johnson said Creason was immediately suspended with pay Wednesday after a compliant.

Johnson said by law he couldn't go into details about the complaint and wouldn't say who it was from but it was reported to police.

Detectives said it is something they are looking into but their investigation is still in the early stages.

Police said they have to interview employees at the school district, which they said will take time.

Police said they can't give any more information about the case to protect the integrity of the investigation,

Johnson said once the school district's investigation is complete, he would be willing to speak about it. It could be as early as this week.
