Democratic Senate candidate Cheri Beasley tours apprenticeship facility

CONCORD, N.C. — The Democratic candidate for North Carolina Senate seat says she wants to invest in apprenticeship programs if elected.

Channel 9 was with Cheri Beasley Monday when she toured Mechanical Trades Carolina in Concord.

MTC offers welding, piping and HVAC training.

Beasley said that she would fight for funding programs like MTC if she was elected to a U.S. Senate seat.

“It is really important for people who may choose another path outside of college to have opportunities for real working opportunities,” Beasley said.

MTC apprentices receive paid training, competitive salaries and benefits.

Tuition is also free.

Beasley is running against Republican candidate Ted Budd.

Budd told Channel 9 in a statement, “There are multiple pathways to the American dream and that’s why I’ve supported apprenticeships during my time in Congress. These apprenticeships are more important than ever before with the Biden agenda supported by Cheri Beasley crushing family budgets across North Carolina.”
