Denver man robbed, carjacked in driveway before work

DENVER, N.C. — A Denver man got in his car parked in the driveway of his home early Wednesday morning when three men with their faces covered robbed him at gunpoint and stole the vehicle, Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies said.

The three men approached Patrick Reilly at a home in the 3800 block of Sage Court at about 5 a.m.

Before that, Reilly said he noticed an SUV parked on the street and saw the three men walking around.

"I was thinking that's kind of strange," Reilly said.

Once he got into his car, the SUV blocked him in his driveway, while the other two perpetrators demanded money, his wallet and the keys to his car.

"I looked in the mirror and I saw that car coming real fast down the road, and he pulled in back of me," Reilly said.

One stole Reilly's Honda Accord and the other got into the SUV and left.

"John Wayne died," Reilly said. "I'm not going to be a hero -- for what?"

The stolen 2014 Honda is tan with North Carolina tags -- CHL-4376.

No one was injured.

Other vehicles were broken into in the Terraces neighborhood.

"We felt very violated and the fact that we're just two women here by ourselves -- we'll be unnerved for a while," Malline Stross said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at 704-732-9050,

"Be more secure," Reilly said. "Make sure you lock your doors."
