• Deputies: 3 men beat victim unconscious in carjacking

RICHMOND COUNTY, N.C. - Authorities are looking for three men after a victim was beaten unconscious in Rockingham around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The victim, a 23-year-old man from Hamlet, told the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office he was pumping air into his tires in the Shiv’s Corner convenience store parking lot when another car came into the parking lot.

Three black men came out of the car. One had a gun, officials said.

The men demanded money from the victim. When he handed over his wallet, they beat him unconscious and stole everything else he had with him, including his car. He was driving a red 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier.

The car was found abandoned between 6:30 and 7:30 a.m.

The victim was taken to Richmond Memorial Hospital for X-rays and CAT scans.
