GASTONIA, N.C. — Authorities in Gastonia used a Taser to subdue a man they said cut another man with a broken bottle.
The takedown happened Tuesday on East Ozark Avenue in Gastonia.
With police shootings getting more attention, officers are working on more ways to stop a suspect without being seriously injured.
“(To) prevent putting our officers in situations where they have no resort,” Lincoln County sheriff’s Deputy John Brown said.
Deputies also use other nonlethal approaches like using a rifle that shoots bean bags.

“Lethal force is our last option,” Brown said.
The suspect and victim were taken to a hospital and are expected to be OK.
