Suspect in Charlotte murder case shot, killed by FBI in Alabama, officials say

Detectives investigate 2 separate homicides in northwest Charlotte, CMPD says

CHARLOTTE — Tobby Wiggins, who was wanted in the Charlotte murder of a 39-year-old woman, was shot and killed by the FBI Wednesday in Atmore, Alabama, CMPD said.

The FBI tried to take Wiggins into custody when the deadly encounter happened.

Investigators first responded to Hoskins Mill Lane near Hoskins Road in northwest Charlotte just before 9 p.m. on May 15.

Officers said a resident of the apartment, who knew the victim, called 911 to ask police to check on the woman. When police got to the apartment, they found Cashona Tate dead inside.

Authorities have not said what led up to the incident.
