Driver in custody after high-speed chase, Alexander County deputies say

ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. — Deputies have a suspect in custody who they said jumped and ran from officers Thursday morning in Alexander County.

Authorities said the manhunt happened just west of Taylorsville. Deputies were following the suspect during a high-speed chase when he crashed near Natures Walk Lane.

The driver fled after going through a creek and wrecking in a wooded area.

He was wanted by probation and parole officers after an earlier conviction for assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

Channel 9 reporter Dave Faherty was at the scene and saw the road blocked off in the area as deputies searched for the driver.

Deputies used dogs to track the man and found him hiding near a stump about half a mile from the wreck.

No further details have been released.
