Driver flees after troopers get stuck in the mud

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — A manhunt was underway in Burke County Wednesday morning after police chased a car that took off from a checkpoint.

State troopers told Channel 9 that they were involved in a low-speed pursuit around 11 a.m. after the driver of a green Mazda 6 swerved into a front yard to avoid a license checkpoint.

Troopers immediately gave chase and the pursuit led them down a dead end dirt road and into a rugged field where they lost the suspect vehicle after becoming stuck in the mud.

Police do not know why the driver fled. Nobody was hurt.
