Driver hits utility pole, brings down power lines in South End

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Power lines were draped across a busy South End road overnight after police said a driver hit a utility pole.

The crash happened on South Tryon Street near the Marathon gas station, between Dunavant and Rampart streets.

Channel 9 could see the utility pole snapped and leaning, with several power lines in the road.

The outbound lanes of South Tryon were shut down while Duke Energy crews worked to repair the pole. The road was reopened before noon.

It was unclear whether the driver was hurt.
