Troopers: Driver killed when pickup truck crashes into trees in Lancaster County

LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. — Troopers are investigating a fatal crash in Lancaster County Sunday night.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the scene around 8:30 p.m. on Bethel Boat Landing Road. Troopers said a pickup truck was headed west when it went off the left side of the road and the driver over-corrected, sending the truck into several trees.

Authorities confirmed that the driver died at the scene. On Tuesday, the coroner identified the victim as 31-year-old Marqus Le Dontae Richardson of Lancaster.

Troopers said the driver was trapped in the truck and had to be mechanically removed. They also said the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

No other details have been released.
