Driver says tree hit car while he was driving to work

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A man said he was driving to work when a tree hit his car.

The wreck happened on Ferguson Ridge Road in Gaston County.

The driver told Channel 9 he saw the tree starting to fall, but he couldn't stop in time to miss it. He said he tried to drive by it before it fell. However, the tree hit the front passenger side and smashed the mirror and pierced the windshield.

The tree then bounced over the car and landed behind him.

Reporter Ken Lemon spoke with the driver and will have more on Eyewitness News Midday.
