Officials: Plane returned to airport after smoke reported in cockpit

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Emergency crews were dispatched to the airport for an emergency with a plane Wednesday afternoon.

US Airways flight 876 to Aruba returned to the airport after takeoff due to reports of smoke in the cockpit.

Fire trucks and paramedics were called to the airport as a precaution.

US Airways officials said the flight landed without incident.  They are moving passengers to another aircraft.

No smoke was reported in the plane, just the cockpit, officials said.

Maintenance crews are inspecting the plane.
