Organizers said the event is especially important this year, because they want Gov. Pat McCrory to develop “a clean power plan to comply with the Environmental Protection Agency's first-ever limits on carbon dioxide pollution from coal-fired power plants.”

The Hands Across the Sand/Land event is one of 10 gatherings across North Carolina.

The NC Sierra Club, Clean Air Carolina, Mom's Clean Air Force, Greenpeace, Charlotte Surfrider and other locals participated in the event.
