Escaped SC inmate turns himself in after becoming 'cold and hungry'

PICKENS COUNTY, S.C. — A man who escaped from an upstate South Carolina jail called police and turned himself in.

Pickens County deputies said Ricky Lee Smith told them he surrendered because he was cold and hungry.

Smith and Jonathan Moody climbed a 12-foot wall to escape Wednesday.

Moody was caught less than a mile away that day in only his underwear.
