FAA asks flyers for feedback on airline seat sizes, leg room

CHARLOTTE — The Federal Aviation Administration is asking flyers how they feel about squeezing into small airplane seats in an effort to create new federal standards for seat sizes.

Thousands of people have already told the agency what they’d like to see.

Channel 9′s Glenn Counts went to Charlotte Douglas International Airport to speak with flyers. Many of them said they would be all for airlines adjusting the size of seats on their flights.

“I could definitely use more leg space,” said passenger Jennifer Knight. “I always try to get the exit row which I do have today, but I’m not traveling with kids. When I travel with my kids, I don’t get the exit row because they’re minors. And so we’re often very cramped. And so I’d appreciate a couple extra inches.”

In its new online forum, the FAA said it’s considering establishing minimum standards for seats and their leg room.

Customers have until Tuesday to provide feedback.
