CHARLOTTE, N.C. — More than 1,000 people were without power Monday after a historic tree toppled in a Myers Park neighborhood.
Officials believe heavy rain saturated and loosened the ground, causing a massive Willow Oak tree to fall near Radcliff Avenue and take down powers lines with it.
The tree is believed to be at least 90 years old.
The downed lines caused about 1,300 outages in two different spots in the neighborhood.
Channel 9 could see Duke Energy crews working to get the lines and tree branches out of the road.
