Family faces charges after obtaining motor vehicle on false pretenses

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — A family faces charges after Burke County authorities said they had obtained a motor vehicle by false pretenses.

Krystal Danielle Costner, 30, James Clyde Costner, 76, and Danny Andrew Costner, 36, of Flat Gap Road in Valdese, N.C. were arrested Sunday on charges of obtaining property under false pretenses.

According to Lt. Rodney Norman of the Burke County Sheriff's Office, local law enforcement officers served the warrants for arrest issued out of Mecklenburg County, where the crime was first reported.

"In April of this year, they obtained a Nissan Frontier pickup truck from Charlotte Nissan without making proper payment," said Norman.

Charlotte Nissan reportedly informed authorities that the Costners had presented the dealership with a check linked to a closed account.

Mecklenburg authorities issued three warrants on the Costners, who were arrested in Burke County by local law enforcement agents.

On Sunday the accused were taken to the Burke-Catawba District Confinement Facility where they were placed under three separate $2,000 bonds.

Their first appearance in court is scheduled for Friday.
