‘Panic mode’: CMS mom says school mistakenly put 5-year-old son on bus

CHARLOTTE — A mother said she went to Irwin Academic Center on Wednesday to pick up her five-year-old son but learned the child was mistakenly put on a bus.

It took her hours to track down the boy, who family said was found safe after a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer flagged down the bus he was riding.

In the video at the top of this webpage, reporter DaShawn Brown met with the family when they were trying to track the boy down.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools statement in part:

“After school, the Kindergarten student was inadvertently put on a bus. The school contacted transportation and the student was located and the bus identified. CMS PD and CMPD were alerted to the situation. A CMPD officer met the bus enroute and remained with the child until the parent arrived.”
