Family, friends honor life of father of 7 killed in shooting on Beatties Ford Road

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Saturday, family and friends honored the life of a father of seven, killed in Monday’s shooting on Beatties Ford Road.

Channel 9 was there as they released balloons for Jamaa Cassell. His family wore shirts with his photo on them.

It was a moving ceremony. There seemed to be more smiles than tears. Jamaa’s father said that support helped him be at peace.

“I ain’t gotta say much. Look, see them all? That’s love, man. When you get love like that, there ain’t much to say,” Charles Billings said.

About 100 people showed up to honor Jamaa.

Another family also laid one of the victims to rest Saturday.

The family allowed Channel 9 to be at Kelly Miller’s funeral in Midtown. She was passionate about music and hoped to make an album.

In the shootout on Monday morning, four people were killed at a block party, according to authorities.

Police haven’t made any arrests in their deaths. Hundreds of people were at the shooting, but few of them have given information to police about who the shooter might be.
