Family takes steps to remove loved one from rehab facility after troubling report

MATTHEWS — Family members are sounding the alarm after their loved one was left in troubling conditions at a rehabilitation facility in Matthews.

“I have to wonder if it is because this is a population we don’t value the way we should in our society, and that saddens me,” said Regenia Hubbard, who has an aunt who resides at Royal Park of Matthews Rehabilitation & Health Center.

Their serious concerns led to a state inspection.

Documents show a that staffing shortage led to residents not getting proper care at the facility.
