Family wants justice in unsolved Concord murder case

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Members of a Concord family aren't giving up their fight for justice one year after their loved one was accused in a deadly shooting.

The family of Johnny Blanks gathered at his gravesite Sunday. Blanks was shot and killed in a home in Concord last July.  The homeowner Timothy Crumitie told police that Blanks shot and killed his wife after breaking into their home.

Crumitie said he then shot and killed Blanks.

While police are still investigating this case, the family members told Channel 9 they aren't letting this case go unsolved.

"My mother is having a hard time dealing with it. She doesn't understand why it happened. She knows her son didn't bother anybody.

He didn't have any enemies. He helped everybody. He was the handyman," said Rochelle Blanks, Johnny Blanks sister.

Police questioned Crumitie in the case but never charged him with the death of Blanks. A few years ago, Crumitie was also charged with killing his former Mecklenburg County business partner but prosecutors dismissed that charge because of the lack of evidence.
