Highway shut down for 4 hours after fatal wreck Saturday

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — A deadly crash tied up traffic for hours on a major highway. The wreck happened around 10:45 a.m. Saturday.

Police said 35-year old Kristy Miller died in that crash in north Mecklenburg County. They said she was traveling toward Lincoln County when she veered into oncoming traffic in a 2006 Honda Accord.

The car slammed into a Ford pickup truck carrying a trailer. Miller died and a 5-month-old girl in the back seat of her car was rushed to the hospital. Police said the child was restrained and didn't have any injuries.

The driver of the truck was also taken to the hospital, but is expected to be OK.

Police had to close down a portion of Highway 73 for four hours.

They said they are still investigating what caused Miller to veer into oncoming traffic. They have ruled out alcohol.
