Police investigating deadly crash involving tractor-trailer, motorcycle in northwest Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — Police are investigating a deadly crash involving a motorcycle and tractor-trailer in northwest Charlotte Monday night.

Officers responded just after 8:30 p.m. to the scene at the intersection of Rozzelles Ferry Road and Lawton Road.

MEDIC said the motorcyclist died at the scene and a passenger on the motorcycle was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The tractor-trailer driver, Rolando Reimundez Pedre, 28, was not hurt in the crash.

Investigators said the motorcycle was traveling northwest on Rozzelles Ferry Road, when it got to the intersection. The tractor-trailer then turned left from the southeast lanes, in front of the motorcycle, causing the motorcycle to hit the tractor-trailer.

Both the motorcyclist and passenger were thrown from the motorcycle. They were both wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

Pedre has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to yield the right of way.

Police said speed and impairment are not factors in the collision.
