Federal prosecutors take on more cases in effort to curb violent crime

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Federal prosecutors are taking on more cases after the Justice Department gave them funding to hire two people to work specifically on violent crime cases.

Jango Touray is accused of stealing a Maserati from a north Charlotte car dealership, robbing a pawn shop and leading police on a chase earlier this year.

He’s now one of four suspects facing serious charges in state courts who have been indicted in federal court.

“We’re not playing. The feds are taking cases. And if you’re going to be a violent criminal, we’re going to take you, and you’re going to go away for a long time,” U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina Andrew Murray said.
