• Fire causes damage to home near Hildebran

    BURKE COUNTY, N.C. - Hot ashes are being blamed for a fire in Burke County that heavily damaged a home near Hildebran.

    Four fire departments worked to bring the fire under control on Thursday afternoon.

    Firefighters believe the fire started after someone removed ashes from a fireplace and put them outside. Strong winds caused the fire to spread quickly.

    Damages have been estimated at more than $150,000.
