Fire causes significant damage in Bessemer City

BESSEMER CITY — Bessemer City Fire Department responded to a structure fire in Gaston County on Saturday afternoon.

Crews were dispatched with firefighters from Crowder's Mountain Fire and Rescue and Tryonota Volunteer Fire Department to 709 West Virginia Ave. in Bessemer City.

When crews arrived on the scene, the one-story residential structure had smoke and flames coming from the rear of the home.

Upon entry, firefighters encountered the back of the structure fully involved with fire.

A total of 20 personnel were on the scene, and there were no injuries reported to civilians or firefighters.

The structure sustained $30,000 in damages due to the fire, and the cause is under investigation by the Gaston County Fire Investigations Task Force.
