Fire truck rolls over in wreck on way to emergency

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two Cooks Community Volunteer Fire Department firefighters sustained minor injuries after their fire engine wrecked on the way to an emergency Sunday.

They were on their way to a fire on an Interstate 485 ramp near W.T. Harris Boulevard when the truck rolled over.

"Our firefighters are very blessed and had somebody looking out for them yesterday," fire chief Tommy Towner said.

The steering wheel was bent from the impact.

The firefighters went to the hospital and received staples for some cuts and then went home the same day.

Towner said they've heard from concerned firefighters at departments from as far away as Dubai.

"It's been worldwide, and it's been supportive of the brotherhood that truly is still in the fire service," Towner said.
