Two adults, child displaced after Cabarrus County fire

CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — A family, two adults and a child, are homeless after their single-wide mobile home caught fire in Cabarrus County.

The fire then spread to the surroundings, causing a three-acre brush fire.

Crews said Highway 601 near Jim Sossoman Road in Midland was closed for hours because of the fire.

Investigators said the home was a total loss. No one was in the home at the time of the fire, but the family arrived home to heavy smoke and called authorities..

Crews said the home was about 2,000 feet off the road, which made it accessible by truck, but hard to get a water line to it.

Highway 601 has reopened, officials said.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
