• Firefighters investigate cause after Kannapolis house fire

    KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - Kannapolis Fire Department responded to a fire Tuesday morning on Independence Square.
     
    A woman smelled smoke in the kitchen, gathered a few of her pets and got out of the house. A neighbor called 911 when flames were seen out the back.
     
    The woman was the only one home at the time.
     
    Firefighters said a majority of the damage was to the kitchen area and the side of the house. No one was injured.
