GASTONIA, N.C. — Firefighters are investigating after a fire destroyed a three-bedroom family home in Gastonia early Monday morning.
The fire started in a home on Howe Dairy Road.
Gaston County Communications said the call for the fire came in around 8 a.m. and three different fire departments responded to the fire.
When Channel 9 arrived on scene, firefighters were beginning to climb through the rubble to put out various hot spots.
"I hate to see anybody's dream go up in smoke," neighbor Burle Cabe said.
Cabe said a family had planned to move into the home next to him.
"That's the American dream, to have a place to live, and own your own house," Cabe said.
Cabe said it was a large family of several men, women and a few children.
He said they spent eight months refurbishing the house.
The home was almost completely destroyed.
I woke to a blaze,” Cabe said. “It was scary.'"
He said the family didn't have insurance, and they said there was no electricity in the home.
No injuries were reported.
