• First responders, Salvation Army collect Christmas gifts for families

    CHARLOTTE, N.C. - For the next few weeks, police, firefighters and the Salvation Army will collect toys, clothing and money for families in need as part of the CMPD Explorers Christmas Project.

     In the video at the top of this web page, officers told Eyewitness News reporter Tina Terry the need is great, and it will take a Christmas miracle to supply every kid's wish.

    CMPD and fire stations will collect donations through Dec. 21. People can also take donations to the Charlotte Salvation Army.  There are also several special opportunities to donate listed below:

    CMPD Explorers Christmas Project Toy Drive

    • Walmart Supercenter – 8180 S Tryon Street
    • Nov. 30; 6 a.m. – 7 p.m.

    Speedway Christmas at Charlotte Motor Speedway

    • Thursdays bring a toy to donate and receive $5 off admission 6-10 p.m.
    • 5555 Concord Pkwy S, Concord
    • From 6-10 p.m. on Nov. 29, Dec. 6, Dec. 13, Dec. 20

    Winter Wonderland Ice Rink at SouthPark Mall

    • 4400 Sharon Road
    • Dec. 11; 5-7 p.m.
    • Dec. 18; 4-7 p.m.
    • Dec. 19; 4-7 p.m.
