Former patient defends Lincolnton OBGYN accused of rape

LINCOLNTON, N.C. — A former patient of a Lincolnton OBGYN doctor accused of raping a patient nearly 20 years ago is speaking out to defend him.

Dr. John Marshall was arrested Oct. 21 on charges of rape, sexual offense and conspiracy.

Police said Marshall raped a female patient at CMC-Lincoln on Memorial Day weekend in 1996 while the patient was helpless under the influence of powerful drugs.

But another former patient, Sherri Watson, told Channel 9 she doesn't believe the allegations.

"He made me feel comfortable," Watson said.

Watson said Marshall was her OBGYN for all three of her daughters' births. She said during each pregnancy, there was always a female nurse in the room accompanying Marshall.

"I'm not saying it didn't happen. I'm just saying me personally, didn't have any problems.
