• Founder of civil rights group arrested on traffic charge

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. - The founder of the civil rights group True Healing under God is planning a news conference Sunday about his arrest.

John Barnette was charged with driving with a revoked license Friday in Gaston County and is out of jail on bond.
Barnette's lawyers will also have an update at Sunday’s conference on Monday's “Justice for Jonathan Ferrell” rally that will be held outside the courthouse in uptown.
The rally was organized as a second grand jury is set to hear a voluntary manslaughter charge against Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Officer Randall Kerrick.
Earlier this week, the first grand jury turned down the indictment, saying there wasn't enough evidence to support the charge.
On Friday, Kerrick's attorneys filed a motion to stop Monday's hearing.
They claim the state doesn't have the authority to go through the process again on the same charge.
Channel 9 will have crews inside the courtroom Monday morning to hear what the judge decides on this new motion.
