Four suspects accused in Village Lake incident

CHARLOTTE — Police say four suspects were arrested yesterday after one fired a gun at an officer.

Charlotte Mecklenburg police went to the home on Village Lake Drive on Friday to serve a search warrant for drugs. When officers went inside Omar Cook ran upstairs and started shooting at them.

Police arrested Omar Cook, his mother, Lorrece Cook, and his two brothers, Jabari Cook and Tyree Irvine. Lorrece Cook said her son did not know police were at the door and he was just trying to protect his family from what he thought was an intruder.

Three of the four suspects are out of jail, but the shooter remains behind bars.

Police charged Lorrece Cook and Irvine with obstruction and Jabari Cook with possession of marijuana. Tune in to Channel 9 at 6 p.m. for the latest details.
