Free: Mecklenburg County, Bio-One offering to disinfect seniors’ homes

CHARLOTTE — There is another Mecklenburg County effort to give its citizens over the age of 60 some protection from COVID-19.

The Department of Social Services and Bio-One have teamed up to disinfect their homes one time and it’s free.

The occupants must leave their homes for three hours during cleaning.

“The services will consist of shockwaves that goes through home,” said Greg Tanner, Mecklenburg County DSS. “Residents can’t be in home. It’s not harmful to them, pets or flowers, but the chemical minimizes the spread of the virus and last two to three weeks per home.

Tanner said they plan to clean 1,000 to 2,000 homes once. If there are not enough people who sign up, they will consider disinfecting some homes twice.

They’re also giving out free fans for seniors.
