Fundraiser held for family that lost daughter in Christmas Day crash

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Several people braved the cold weather Saturday to help a Gastonia family who lost their 13-month-old daughter in a wreck on Christmas day.

The charity bike event went from Gastonia to Bessemer City. The money raised will go toward helping the Hooper family with medical bills and funeral arrangements for daughter, Lexi Hooper.

"It just shows you that a community can come together and help out no matter the situation," said organizer Rodney Hall.

Lexi Hooper's parents are out of the hospital.

Police said the car they were driving hit another one head-on on Highway 74 in Wadesboro. Police said the crash was not caused by alcohol, speed or fatigue.
