CROWDERS MOUNTAIN, N.C. — Rangers and members of the Carolina Climbers Coalition will go up Crowders Mountain where a man died this week to inspect the area where he fell.
They said they will finish their investigation next week.
Mark Byers' family told Channel 9 he was happiest when he was climbing and that Byers was an avid climber for 40 years.
He slipped and fell 60 feet while scaling a wall Monday, hitting his head on the rocks.
The Byers family will hold a celebration of Mark's life Saturday at the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton funeral home in Shelby on Cherryville Road at 11 a.m.
