BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. — Gardner-Webb University put out an alert Monday morning asking students to shelter in place after a shooting in the town of Boiling Springs.
Officials tweeted that the crime happened about one mile from campus.
They said police were on the scene conducting an investigation and asked the school to remain in sheltered in place.
Officials said the suspect was last seen on foot near Flint Hill Church Road. They only had a vague description of the man.
The shelter in place was lifted around 12 p.m. The school said students and staff should remain vigilant and report anything suspicious to university police at 704-406-4444.
