GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Gaston County is on the verge of a COVID-19 spike like the one that happened over the summer.

Dr. Crystal Bowe, who is on the Gaston County task force, said hopefully the spike one won’t climb as high, which was 19%, but that depends on how many people get vaccinated.

“The trend looks like we are getting worse and not better,” Crystal said.

A week ago, 6.3% of people tested positive for COVID-19.

That number is now 8.1% and it shadows a national trend.

Bowe said COVID-19 cases in the ER in Gaston County jumped 25% in a week.
