Gaston County woman charged with murder after shooting man in head, police say

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A woman has been charged with murder after shooting a man in the head Monday night inside a Gaston County apartment, according to police.

Police said they responded around 10:30 p.m. to reports of a shooting at an apartment on Heather Lane in Cherryville.

When they got there, police said they found 24-year-old Rhonschocki Markee Flack Jr. with a gunshot wound to the head. Flack was taken to Caromont Regional and then later to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center where he later died.

The suspect, 22-year-old Kendra Adaire Odums, was initially charged with assault with deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill but her charges have since been upgraded to first-degree murder. She is currently being held in the Gaston County Detention Center with no bond.

Police have not said what led to the shooting.
