Groundbreaking for streetcar extension scheduled for next week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for next week for Charlotte's streetcar extension.

People who live and work in the area got their last chance to ask questions.

The team in charge of the $37 million project held an open house Thursday about construction plans.

“We want to keep up our communications with the public during construction, especially with the property owners and the businesses,” said senior project manager Tonia Wimberly with Charlotte Engineering.

The first phase will stretch from Presbyterian Hospital to the Charlotte Transportation Center.

Heavy construction is scheduled to start next month.
