High school science teacher accused of exchanging sexual messages with student

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — A 23-year-old North Iredell High School teacher was arrested and charged with felony indecent liberties with a student, the sheriff’s office said Wednesday in a release.

Detectives learned science teacher John Dean Woody was accused of exchanging messages with a student that were sexual in nature.

A report was filed Wednesday with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

Woody has been suspended without pay from Iredell-Statesville Schools. Officials said he has been with the district since September 2020.

Wood was arrested and taken to the Iredell County Magistrate’s office where he appeared before Magistrate M. Nethken who issued a $25,000 secured bond.

No other details have been released.
