High-speed chase spans 2 counties

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — Two people were injured in a high-speed chase that spanned two counties.
 
Eyewitness News' partners at The Mooresville Tribune said the police chase started on Rogers Lake Road in Cabarrus County after Michael Mercer took off after a routine traffic stop.
 
Authorities said they finally caught up with him after he slammed into a minivan on Highway 3 at Ferncliff Drive just outside downtown Mooresville in Iredell County.
 
The two people inside that minivan were taken to the hospital.
