CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Hornets point guard Kemba Walker might have just made himself a lot more money.
[Walker becomes Hornets' career scoring leader]
The league announced Thursday afternoon that Walker was named third-team All-NBA, his first All-NBA selection. The distinction comes at a critical time.
He is set to become a free agent on July 1 and the All-NBA honor makes him eligible for the Designated Veteran Player Extension with the Hornets, also known as the “supermax” contract. Now, the Hornets can offer Walker a deal worth up to $221.3 million over five years.
The most any of the other 29 teams could offer Walker is $140.6 million over four years.
